Orlando Pool Care FAQ’s

Q:
How long should I run my pump?
A:

Many factors determine pool filter pump running time. Factors such as:  the time of year, the size of pool (total gallons), bather load, the environment, and water temperature, all influence running time.  As a general rule, more in the summer and less in the winter.  For example, 10-12 hours in the summer & 4-6 hours in the winter, and 8 hours in the spring & fall.  Also, running the circulation pump during the peak time the sun is on pool, provides a good even mix of water temperature throughout.

Q:
How often should I take the D.E. filter apart?
A:

Besides the routine maintenance of backwashing on a regular basis, generally the Diatomaceous Earth (D.E.) filter should get a filter breakdown once a year … call the shop to schedule yours.

Q:
How do I figure the amount of water in my pool?
A:

To determine pool water volume (total gallons), multiply (in feet) the Length x Width x Average Depth x 7.5 = Total Gallons. Average depth, is the depth of the shallow end added to the depth of the deep end, and then divided in half. The 7.5 figure represents the total volume of water in a cubic foot. An example for an average pool would be:  15′ x 30′ x 6′ x 7.5 = 20,250 Total Gallons. Note: Having an accurate pool water volume is important to ensure that all dosage recommendations are correct.

Q:
How often should I get my water tested?
A:

Weekly. You can bring a sample to our retail store or you can use a home kit.

Q:
How often should I replace my cartridge filter element?
A:

Many manufacturers recommend every 18 months.

Q:
What is pH and why does it need to be adjusted?
A:

An ideal pH level is acceptable between 7.4 – 7.6. An ideal range allows chemicals to work better, but also allows greater swimmer comfort. pH is a measure of how acidic or how basic your water is and is the most important factor in good water chemistry.

Q:
Do I have to drain the pool to change my light bulb?
A:

Generally no. If the pool light was installed properly there should be enough excess cord to get the fixture up onto the pool deck to get the job done.

Q:
What does the pressure gauge on the filter mean?
A:

It is a useful tool to mainly detect flow issues due to a dirty filter (high pressure) or a clogged impeller (low pressure).  The first and most important info to know about the filters gauge is the clean running pressure. Once that is established, then generally 5 to 10 lbs. of pressure above the initial clean pressure means the filter is dirty. Lower pressure below the initial clean pressure indicates a possible clogged impeller or even a full pump basket.  Call the store for more detailed information.

Q:
Is there really a Bud Mudd?
A:

Yes, there is and always will be.  Bud, Geeya’s father, passed away peacefully during the summer of 2011.  Our family celebrated his life by providing the opportunity for new life, as part of a Memorial Reef, built off the coast of Sarasota, Florida.  Constructed by a company called Eternal Reefs, they create permanent living legacies that memorialize the passing of a loved one.  Strongly encouraged is a visit to their inspiring website at, www.eternalreefs.com.   Bud is forever loved.
