Swimming Pool News, Hints & Tips

Going green!

Green choices have made their way to the pool and spa industry.  Pumps are variable speed, digitally intelligent, and energy efficient more than ever before.  A pool pumps flow rate can now be matched to a pools needs, versus running at full power 100% of the time.

Here in Florida, after July 1, 2011, all Florida licensed contractors will be required to install variable speed pumps when total horsepower of 1 HP or larger is needed for filtered water.  When replacing an existing motor, a variable speed motor is available for 1 HP applications, as well.

Pentair’s IntelliFlo variable speed pumps combine variable drive technology, onboard digital intelligence, and permanent magnet motors (similar to ones used in hybrid cars) to reduce pump related energy costs by up to 90%.  Permanent magnet motors run cooler and with less vibration to reduce stress and wear on all components.  The new IntelliFlo VS+SVRS model features a built in safety vacuum release system that detects blockage and automatically shuts the pump off.  For more info,  log on to:  www.pentairpool.com.   And while there, check out the  Pool Pump Energy Cost Calculator.  It’s easy to use and understand, and the savings it spells out  in energy costs are incredible!

Hayward’s EcoStar variable speed pump is very efficient at any speed and can save up to 90% on energy costs over a single-speed pump.  The integrated controller is programable with a self-contained 24- hour clock and up to 8 custom speed and timer functions.  EcoStars variable speed control assures that the water flows at the rate needed.  All variable speed pumps, when operating at lower speeds, move water slower through the filter, which means more particulate is removed for clearer water!   A unique feature to EcoStar pumps is the integrated controller that can be repositioned or even removed and mounted on the wall for easier access.  For more info, log on to:  www.haywardnet.com.

With energy prices on the rise, now is the perfect time to consider changing your pump and start saving money today!
